As a flight attendant and fitness junkie, I am always thinking about ways to make the most of the space in my suitcase. I like to pack as lightly as possible and my coworkers are always amazed when I show up with 1 suitcase or a backpack when they have a trailer of 3 huge pieces of luggage.
How did I do it??? Here are my tips for packing "light".
Tip #1: Utilize as much space as possible! Stick your socks and underwear in your shoes. Take things out of their packaging. Get Ziploc Space Saver Bags if you have a ton of bulky items, if you purchase the bags that are labeled travel you won't need to use a vacuum to seal them, they will compress as you roll up the bag.
Tip #2: Roll with it! If you are not using space saver bags- roll, roll, roll! Most clothes take up less space when they are rolled up like a burrito. You can also fit the rolls together like Tetris pieces. Some things like stiff jeans are better folded just once so they are as flat as possible.
Tip #3: Mix and match! Plan your wardrobe before you put it in your suitcase. Jeans aren't meant to be washed often, I recommend recycling 1 or 2 pairs (depending on how long your stay is) for the entire trip. Denim also takes up more space, try to stick to dresses, athleisure and leggings whenever possible. Bring pieces that are versatile. Can a top be worn multiple ways? Can layers be split up to create new styles?
Tip #4: Work out in the buff! On a very rare occasion, I have forgot my workout clothes or had an extra long trip in multiple climates so I've strategically left them behind... Rather than push my workout to the wayside, I've utilized the privacy of my hotel room and my one and only birthday suit to #fititin. Not brave enough for this one? A bra and panties or swimsuit also do in a pinch. Also choose workouts you can do sans shoes (like The Fit Co. On The Go or Pilates) so you can choose the cute booties over tennis shoes.
Do you have any packing tips you swear by? I'd love to add them to my repertoire and share them with fellow travelers.
