Kristin McGee is a mom who juggles it all and still manages to make time for herself. Most impressively, she has just had twins and launched a book all within the same month! We are proud to host Kristin McGee for a book signing and special heart meditation class to nurture the demographic that puts themselves last most often: MOMS! We sat down with Kristin to discuss her book, babies and busy life.
1. Kristin, you have three boys under three including Newborn twins. How do you find time to do any yoga or stay active at all?
Timothy 3.5 yo Robert & William are not even 2 months yet. I sneak yoga and workouts in while the boys are napping. I also incorporate them in to mommy and me yoga. They can lie on their backs and I do down dog over them. Eventually, I will begin scheduling my workouts in again while I have my morning nanny.
2. Your new book, Chair Yoga, highlights the benefits of chair yoga and provides the readers with 100 different chair yoga poses that can be done anywhere. Can you give us your three favorites?
I love goddess twist, it targets everything at once! it's a great hip opener, inner thigh stretch, low back and shoulder.
High altar side leans- because of how accessible they are to everyone and can be done anywhere. Perfect for places like the airplane and doctors office!
Cow legs- great for opening hips (moms get really tight in the hips. Pregnancy can cause piriformis syndrome and SI problems. Post pregnancy carrying baby on one hip throws the alignment off) this pose really helps to reset the hips and and added bonus engages the core!
3. What advice do you have for busy moms who want to stay active but are struggling to find time?
Schedule yourself first because if you don't you are never going to make it happen. In between laundry or play time get down and do 5-10 mins of exercise. Delegate tasks when you can, like the dishes, laundry and other household tasks. Don't worry if settings aside 30 minutes for yourself feels impossible right now. It doesn't have to be all at once, fit in small chunks of "you time" for workouts throughout the day.
