Instructor Name: Nicole Calabrese
Call Me: Nicole
Classes Taught at the Fit Co: Fusion (M/W) and No Sweat (Tues)
Hometown: Rochester, NY
Tell us about your first workout class. Who was the instructor, where was the class, what was it like for you?
It was at a Bally’s total fitness in Rochester, NY, instructed by an old dance teacher of mine. It was a total body conditioning class. I love to work out and push myself HARD. I was amazed by how much harder I worked in this setting, feeding off of the energy around me and being pushed even further by an instructor.
What is your instructor mission statement?
To feed my clients an endorphin rush in a positive, encouraging environment.
What can participants expect when they come to your class?
I encourage a strong focus on form and precision of movement, on getting your brain inside of the muscles we are working. Lots of smiles, sweat, and booty sculpting :)
What is your go to before workout snack? After workout?
Before workout: a cashew cookie lara bar or a turkey wrap. After: (not gonna lie…) a cheeseburger and a beer!
What’s your favorite exercise? Why?
Speed skaters. Having a dance background, I like the way it evokes the feeling of a jete (leap) in ballet.
What or who is your spirit animal?
I have spent days thinking about this, and am still not sure if this is my final answer. I’m going to go with a combination of the three main characters from the movie “Superbad”, Evan, Seth, and McLovin (in that exact order).
One surprising thing most people don’t know about you?
If you’re ever in Japan, you might see me in a vitamin commercial that is currently airing there. I’m dancing around like a crazy person with painted on eyebrows, a side ponytail, and 80s aerobics gear.
If you could teach a class with any live band or musician who would you teach to?
I have spent days thinking about this, and am still not sure if this is my final answer (haha). Radiohead is my favorite band, however, I could probably count on one hand the number of people who would sign up for a Radiohead class. One could argue that DJs are not musicians, but I love playing electronic music in my classes. I would probably go with Major Lazer.
