Since I was in my early 20s, I always loved the name Sophia. I knew that, if I ever had a daughter, that was "the name". When I was pregnant, at age 33, with a girl, the name Sophia was #1 in popularity. Wanting to "fight the urge" and not do what everyone else was doing, I considered several alternatives. But Sophia still held strong.
When it came to naming The Fit Co, that took about nine months. I would be so sure of a name I came up with, then another name would come up and become my next leading contender.
The word "Fit" was essential. It's fitness that we fit into your life. The number one reason people don't work out is time. At The Fit Co all of our workouts are designed to hit all muscles in a time efficient manner. We take away other obstacles as well: forget your sneakers? No worries all workouts can be done barefoot. No childcare? Bring your child with you. Can't make it to us? All of our workouts can be done with just your body weight so we can come to you.
The "co" is short for cooperative.
The "co" is short for cooperative. I have always believed in partnerships and we are stronger together than alone. In the first year of The Fit Co the focus was to bring together various fitness philosophies which is why you will see yoga, pilates mat and barre moves in our signature No Sweat, Fusion and Werk It classes. But the "co" is more than just being physically fit.
Towards the end of last year we started bringing in other entrepreneurs. In our holiday guide, we gave you our Loyal Hana discount code, last week our Elviecode, and we sell tanya-b and Funky Shredz and have partnered with Magnificent Mommies as well. All these companies are owned by females who have an overall passion for wellness and fitting whatever their "it" is into all of our lives. We will continue to introduce you to these fantastic companies.
Mind. Body. Spirit
In addition to these powerful female-founded and run companies, the vision of The Fit Co was also to collaborate with other wellness professionals. As much as I love physical exercise and deeply believe in its importance, having a fit mind, body, and spirit is a multi-faceted approach. We are so excited to announce that we are partnering with NY Times contributor and accomplished author Dawn Lerman, to handle your nutrition questions, and Pamela Palladino Gold author of Find More Strength: 5 Pillars to Unlock Unlimited Power and Happiness is here to support you in your mindfulness practice and spiritual growth.
